Is there a voxel survival game with seasons you can play for free?
Yes. In VoxWish, spring, summer, autumn and winter take turns in the same world, three in-game days each. It is free in the browser with no download: the same forest blossoms in spring, turns gold and red in autumn and carries snow in winter.
What each season looks like
- Spring
- Fresh, bright green in the grass and the leaves. Every third broadleaf tree blossoms white and pink, and petals drift through the air.
- Summer
- The long green days.
- Autumn
- Every treetop takes its own colour — gold, orange, red, rust — while the conifers stay dark green. Leaves lie under the trees and tumble down through warm, hazy light.
- Winter
- Snow covers the ground and the treetops, snow falls, and roofs and roads carry a layer of it. Water freezes into smooth, bright ice.
What winter changes
Winter is not only a look. Without the sun, the cold bites harder, and you can see your breath. The ice carries you, but it is slippery. When winter ends, the thaw brings rain.
Seasons in a survival game
The seasons sit on top of everything else in VoxWish: hunger, thirst and cold, nights that are dangerous, a campfire that needs fuel, and a camp that grows into a village. More in a free survival game in your browser. The later ages, up to 2077, come with the full version, which is coming to Steam: add VoxWish to your Steam wishlist.
Other games with seasons
If you are after a deep survival game to download, Vintage Story also simulates four seasons and body temperature; it is a paid game for Windows, Mac and Linux (vintagestory.at). More games side by side: VoxWish next to other voxel games.
Questions
- How long does a season last?
- Three in-game days. Then the next season begins, and a quiet note tells you so.
- Do older worlds get seasons too?
- Yes. New worlds and worlds from before the seasons arrived both start in spring.
- Does winter make survival harder?
- Yes. Without the sun it gets colder, and the ice that carries you is slippery. Fire and shelter matter more.
- Is it free, and does it need a download?
- It is free in the browser, needs no account and no download, and has no ads. The full version with all six ages is coming to Steam.
