Is there a free game like Minecraft you can play in the browser?
Yes. VoxWish is a free voxel survival game that runs in a browser tab — no download, no account needed, no ads. You break and place blocks, chop trees, light a fire and get through the night, on a computer with mouse and keyboard or on a phone with touch controls.
What you do in VoxWish
The world is made of blocks, and you can break and place every one of them. In survival you gather wood and stone, craft tools that wear out, keep a campfire burning and build a shelter before dark. In creative you build freely. Both modes are included.
The world behaves like a world. Trees tip and fall where physics puts them instead of floating in the air. Animals graze, flee and swim. Cave systems are generated so that every corridor and shaft can be walked. Hunger, thirst, cold and sickness act on your body: your sight blurs, your steps slow, your hands shake.
Where it goes: from the Stone Age to 2077
Your flying car goes down in 2077 and you wake up in the Stone Age. From there you build your way home, age by age, on the same spot: a camp, a village, a castle town, a harbour, a city of today and the neon city of 2077. More on that in a game where you build from the Stone Age to 2077.
The first two ages, the Camp and the Village, are free in the browser. The later ages come with the full version, which is coming to Steam: add VoxWish to your Steam wishlist.
Built from your wishes
Press F1 while you play and wish for anything — a block, an animal, a whole feature. Every wish we take on lands on the public wish board, where players vote on it, and what we build stays there with both dates: when it was wished for, and when it landed in the world.
How it differs from Minecraft
VoxWish is its own game, not a version of Minecraft. Minecraft is a paid game you download, and its free trial gives you about 100 minutes of in-game time (minecraft.net). VoxWish opens in a browser tab, and the browser version stays free.
Minecraft lets you play alone or with friends (minecraft.net). VoxWish is a single-player game. For more games side by side, see VoxWish next to other voxel games.
Questions
- Do I need to download or install anything?
- No. VoxWish runs in a current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari with WebGL. You open voxwish.com and you are in.
- Is VoxWish really free?
- Yes. The browser version is free, with no ads and no purchases inside the game. It covers the first two ages, the Camp and the Village. The later ages, up to 2077, come with the full version on Steam.
- Can I play with friends?
- VoxWish is a single-player game.
- Does it work on a phone or a tablet?
- Yes, with touch controls: the left thumb moves, the right thumb looks. It runs best on a computer, though.
- Do I need an account?
- No. Everything in the game works without one. Worlds save in your browser, and you can export a world as a file to keep it.
